Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad suggested in an interview with the American television network NBC in September that the Americans' release might be linked to the release of Iranian diplomats he said were being held by U.S. troops in Iraq.

Under Iran's Islamic sharia law, espionage is punishable by death.

And now I am confused as I thought certain people around here said Sharia Law was not being imposed in Islamic countries.

I think this little bargaining chip is a bit off balance since our laws are NOT saying the diplomats are punishable by death.

Ok true granted I do not know what the diplomats are being held for.

Probably will be used as political pawns like North Korea did with the two journalists... Sharia Law = Barbaric Law. Maybe Clinton or even Obama himself can fly over.. and fix it over tea. Right?

Yeah I know about Sharia Law.

I just think this could maybe be really bad. NK Kim Sung Ill is crazy, Iran A*****ejad is a bastard, not so much on the crazy side. He had no qualms of killing the protesters.

Yeah he let the other journalist go, but she was also part Iranian.

I just see this as REALLY Bad.

I just pray that they are accorded the same care and respect, with the same amenities (one hopes for air conditioning and central heating), that the U.S. offers its “political” prisoners? We see that the trial was fair, so why should we expect otherwise?

I didn’t see in the report where the U.S. filed a formal objection to the actions of Iran in this matter; I didn’t read anything about U.S. pressure on Iran to release these prisoners. I must have missed something, or perhaps the NY Times overlooked that aspect of the report.

The U.S. has no direct diplomatic ties with Iran nor does Iran have with the U.S. I think Secretary Clinton has done the right thing, though it will turn into another dog and pony show for the Iranian President to show the world how tough and (maybe) compassionate he is. It's his chance to twist the proverbial donkey's tail.

In this twisted world, people seem to think that's o.k., but if ship back illegal aliens to Mexico, who absolutley came into the nation intentionally as illegals, we are seen as terrible people.

Try to remember, these are the same people that invaded the sovereign embassy of the United States in the late 70's. That is the same as invading another nation-the embassy, as with all embassies, are the territory of the nation that owns the embassy. Even after the hostage crisis in Tehran, we never invaded the Iranian Embassy in Washington D.C and took their personnel hostage...as they did to ours. These people recognize no law, international, diplomatic, anything, except their own-but they want all of us to play by the recognized rules when they feel they don't have to.
