Iran Employing Nazi and Communist Tactics to Fight Opposition

advertisement

It is implanting 6,000 Basij militia centers in elementary schools across Iran to promote the ideals of the Islamic Revolution, and it has created a new police unit to sweep the Internet for dissident voices. A company affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards acquired a majority share in the nation's telecommunications monopoly this year, giving the Guards de facto control of Iran's land lines, Internet providers and two cellphone companies. And in the spring, the Revolutionary Guards plan to open a news agency with print, photo and television elements.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

The authorities have also cracked down on dissent within the educational system, hinting that professors who do not toe the official line will be purged...

I would call it "getting even".

Or who hasn't noticed that elementary school children already pray to and salute the flag in the US while homeland security screens the Internet like mad.

Actually I was tempted to throw in tens of thousands of Internet activists controlled by the state.

But that would be unfair to the US, given that it is Israel that pays and controls them. The US only pays so far that it hands the money to Israel to pay-and-control them (one bloody stupid deal for America, but anyhow).
